Human Resources Project 2008
From April to July 2008, 425 small to medium businesses in the Southern Interior – 100 in the
North Okanagan - were interviewed about their Human Resources practices. The information was compiled,
tabulated and turned into a comprehensive report. This report discusses the strengths and challenges in
key areas such as recruiting, retention, and engagement. In addition to the report, recommendations

Job Posting Boards
Community Futures employment programs offer no charge job posting services for employers seeking to fill their
staffing openings. Your Job postings can be made available to the public and targeted to adults (over 30 years of age)
or youth (under 30 years of age) or both. In addition, private job postings can be made available only to our
employment counsellors to assess their clients for suitability.
Government Assistance Programs
Community Futures employment programs will help employers understand the opportunities that may be available through
specific government programs. Wage subsidies, job creation partnerships, training programs, accommodation of employees
with disabilities, immigrant worker initiatives, are only some of the programs that may be helpful for some employers.
For more information on Wage Subsidy please visit Bowman Employment.
Employer Presentations
Employers with seasonal or regular recruiting activities or looking to fill several job vacancies can present their businesses' working
conditions and terms of employment to job seekers in a group setting. Community Futures will provide a classroom and invite interested
job seekers to attend with their résumés ready for application.
Work Practicums and Volunteer Work Placements
Community Futures employment programs support the return to work for clients through the gaining of employability
skills acquired through volunteering and work practicums. These programs are designed to create a 'win-win' for
the client and the employer and can often result in permanent employment being offered.
Training Opportunities
Community Futures can provide training programs that will enhance the efficiency, productivity and commitment of
your employees and managers. Training programs for team building, retail skills training, customer service
and others are available.
